Original meaning: The crossbar tied to cattle’s horn or getting through cattle’s nose, to prevent the cattle attacking people.

The extended meaning: Scale, balance, Fairness, Justice.

Philosophy: "unity of the opposites", “dynamic balance”

Reference: Chong Wang in Eastern Han Dynasty “Lun-Heng” as “Balanced Enquiries” declared that all beliefs should be based on experimentation and solid evidence.  Three religions of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism discussed “Heng”, an intensive cultural integration.
